Companies that do business with Iran would be exposed and pressured under legislation sponsored by South Florida Congressman Ted Deutch and approved by the House Foreign Affairs Committee on Wednesday.
Companies would be required to report their dealings to the Securities and Exchange Commission. A list of the companies would be made public with an eye toward discouraging Americans from investing in them.
Another proposal would impose sanctions on companies that sell or service products that allegedly enable the Iranian regime to oppress its people.
Deutch, a Democrat from Boca Raton and an advocate for Israel’s interests, says he wants to disable the network of financial support for Iran’s attempt to develop a nuclear weapons program.
