A Great Victory; Thank You

The votes have been counted and the results are in. I wanted you to be the first to know that tonight, the voters of Florida's 19th district elected me to serve in the United States Congress.

I am profoundly humbled to have earned the confidence of the voters in this election. Since 2006, it has been a tremendous honor to serve in the Florida State Senate. However, with the retirement of my dear friend Congressman Robert Wexler, a new opportunity emerged, and with your help and support I will now be able to serve this community in a new and important role.

I share and celebrate this incredible night with you. This victory would not have been possible without your hard work and generosity.

I will never forget my amazing “Team Ted” volunteers who made countless phone calls and walked door to door for this effort. I am so grateful for my friends who waved signs, told their neighbors to vote, and who made significant financial contributions in the midst of a difficult economic period.

This victory, and in fact this entire campaign, would have not been possible with the support and encouragement from my wife, Jill, and my three children, Gabrielle, Serena, and Cole. Their support and understanding throughout this whirlwind of a campaign has meant the world to me.

Tonight I feel very lucky. The people I will have the privilege to represent in Florida's 19th district are an extraordinary collection of Americans. They include seniors who served our nation valiantly in World War II and rebuilt this country after the Great Depression. They are immigrants who arrived in this country 75 years ago, and they are immigrants who arrived last year. They are hardworking families who strive everyday to pass a better world and greater economic opportunities onto their children.

It is these wonderful individuals, the people of South Florida, that I will serve in Congress. For too many citizens of Palm Beach and Broward Counties, new jobs and economic opportunities have not materialized fast enough, and at times, Washington seems paralyzed by special interests and partisan bickering.

I know there are major challenges and many complicated issues facing our country. So when I face tough decisions in Congress, I will look to you for guidance. Fundamentally, I am an optimist, and I firmly believe that we can still accomplish great things within government for the people and for our community.

I cannot thank you enough for your support throughout this campaign. To be given the chance to fight for you in Washington is the honor of a lifetime.

Yours truly,

Ted Deutch
