A freshman who represents parts of Broward and Palm Beach counties, he began his legislative career helping to mold property insurance legislation in January. As vice chairman of the Senate Finance and Tax Committee, he was knee-deep in shaping the property tax reform debate, though unsuccessful in his push to win more relief for business owners and owners of second homes. One notable win: a law divesting state pension money from companies doing business with Sudan and Iran's energy sector.
