Crunch Time: My election is in less than 80 days.

With less than 80 days until my primary election to Congress, momentum is building, but I need your help more than ever to spread the word about this campaign to every corner of South Florida.

Most of you are familiar with my work in the Senate, including passing a bill that created new jobs in research and cancer treatment and that is bringing over a billion dollars in new revenue to the state.  I’m also proud of my role as the first legislator in the country to write and pass legislation that takes state pension funds out of the hands of regimes in Iran and Sudan.

Now, I want to take my work to Washington, replacing Rep. Robert Wexler, who is retiring from Congress.

This is a time of extraordinary challenges for our nation and I am running for Congress to meet these challenges.  Our unemployment rate is painfully high and our economy is shedding jobs at an unacceptable rate, leaving many families without health insurance or the ability to make ends meet.  Here in Florida we have been hit especially hard
by the foreclosure crisis, which is devastating entire neighborhoods.

Abroad we have troops still defending our interests on the ground in Iraq and Afghanistan, Israel continues to search for security and peace, and Iran is working as we speak to develop nuclear weapons.

This is a time of historic challenges – but also a time of tremendous opportunities.  For the first time in generations we are making real progress on the difficult issues – like health care - that have stymied Congress for generations.

I believe we are poised for dramatic change – for dramatic success – behind President Obama and the leadership of Democrats in Congress and I want to help lead this effort in Washington DC.

Please help make sure the right person is there to oversee these important efforts:  Contribute to my campaign today.

I am pleased to have the strong endorsement and support of Congressman Wexler, but the most important endorsement of my campaign comes from you.

My opponent in this is a millionaire who will far outspend me unless I can raise $2 million in 60 days. He is already on television with advertisements, while I am just getting started raising money.

I am going to win this race but I need your help to get my message out to the people.

Please join our campaign and make sure you have a trusted advocate in Washington.

With warm regards,

Ted

A referendum on health care?

President Obama just signed into law health care reform that extends affordable coverage to 32 million uninsured Americans and ends the most  unconscionable of insurance company abuses. For the past week, Americans have rallied in support of these critical reforms - proving once again that good policy makes good politics. Yet, it has become quite clear that Republicans do not see health care reform as a victory for the American people, but instead as a loss for the insurance companies....

Unite Against Citizens United

It is no secret that corporations wield too much power in Washington. From drug companies that lobby against negotiated prices for seniors, to oil companies standing in the way of green energy legislation, far too often, the voices of the American people are drowned out by special interests.   Unfortunately, this problem is only slated to get worse. The Supreme Court's recent Citizens United decision gives corporations a blank check to spend during every election cycle. This ruling...

My Number One Priority: Job Creation

December Jobs Report Highlights Need for Action

Today, the Department of Labor reported that in December of 2009, employers across America cut an additional 85,000 jobs.  Though this is a significant improvement from December of 2008, when we lost 630,000 jobs, this report remains a great disappointment and underlines how many Americans - and especially Floridians - are suffering in this economy.  The fact that unemployment is still at 10 percent and even higher in Florida only reaffirms my belief that Congress and the President...

Buzz: Ted "Winner of the Week"

Winner of the Week: State Sen. Ted Deutch. It looks more and more like the first term Democratic legislator from Boca Raton will walk into the Congressional seat Robert Wexler is vacating to take a well-paid middle east policy advocate job. No serious rival has emerged, Wexler essentially hand-picked his successor for a heavily Democratic district the well-regarded Deutch can probably hold as long as he likes. Full article...

Important Health Care Reform Passed

Dear Friends, I want to recognize and praise the historic passage of fundamental healthcare reform by the United States House of Representatives this past weekend. President Theodore Roosevelt first proposed delivering universal health care to the American people almost one hundred years ago.  Hundreds of Members of Congress and Senators have tried and failed for generations to pass health care reform. Presidents ranging from Harry Truman to Bill Clinton have worked hard to deliver...

Endorsements from Reps. Wexler, Wasserman Schultz, Hastings, and Klein

I have very exciting news that will provide a tremendous boost for our campaign. Today, Congressman Robert Wexler endorsed me to succeed him in 19th Congressional District. In addition to Robert’s vote of confidence, I also received the endorsements of Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, Rep. Alcee Hastings and Rep. Ron Klein. I now have the unanimous support of four Democratic Members of Congress who represent Palm Beach and Broward Counties in Congress. I am truly overwhelmed by this...

Announcing my candidacy for Congress

Dear Friends, I want to let you know that I have just announced my candidacy for the United States Congress in the seat currently held by my friend, Congressman Robert Wexler, who is accepting a new position at the Center for Middle East Peace.   I make this announcement with great excitement and humility. I am gratified by the incredible encouragement and support that I have already received for this race, and I am extremely excited about the opportunity to be your...

Protecting Women's Access to Breast Cancer Screenings

Dear friends, The sad fact is that each and every one of us has a friend or family member whose life has been touched by cancer. Some of us have lost loved ones, others have triumphed over impossible odds, and many courageous friends continue to fiercely battle this vicious disease. I am writing to you today because I am deeply disturbed by the newly issued guidelines from the U.S. Preventative Services Task Force, which tell women to put off mammograms and self-breast exams until the...
